The revolutionary plan that changes the internal policies of these American giants

A group of 22 major companies in Mexico, including Amazon, Walmart, and OXXO, agreed to increase the commercialization of "Made in Mexico" products. This action is part of the Mexico Plan, which seeks to promote local production and generate more employment. The commitment was announced on May 14 during a press conference.

The Ministry of Economy and President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that this agreement is voluntary, but with constant monitoring to ensure its compliance. The initiative aims for self-service stores, department stores, pharmacies, retailers, and digital platforms to increase the proportion of national products in their inventories over the next three years.

more national content in large chains

Self-service stores agreed to increase national content from 50% to 70%, while department stores will raise that percentage from 30% to 42%. Walmart Mexico was one of the first to officially join this campaign. Since February, the chain has carried the "Made in Mexico" label in its stores and clubs, seeking to support the local economy and promote products made in the country.

Meanwhile, Amazon Mexico joined the initiative this May and is committed to boosting the export of small and medium-sized Mexican enterprises through its platform. Country manager Pedro Huerta emphasized that "focusing on products made in Mexico and exporting them to the world is an absolute priority."

OXXO and other key Mexican brands

OXXO, originating in Monterrey, stands out for promoting regional Mexican products, such as "Made in Yucatán" or "Made in Sonora." This strategy has helped the chain position itself among the 10 most valuable Mexican brands, according to the Kantar BrandZ 2025 ranking. The company also joined the agreement with the Government of Mexico to support national production, reinforcing its commitment to the Mexican market.
