Millions of people in the United States were truly surprised when they checked the payment schedule from the Social Security Administration (SSA). Many are already used to receiving their money on specific dates each month. However, an unexpected change has caused great interest among those who depend on these benefits.
This time, the news brings good news for some beneficiaries. SSA has officially confirmed the payment schedule for August 2025. What has drawn attention is that certain people will receive two payments in the same month.
This double deposit is not a mistake or a special bonus. It is the result of an adjustment for a national holiday: Labor Day, which is celebrated on September 1 in the United States.

Ssa moves up the payment
To avoid delays due to this holiday, SSA has moved up the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment for September. For that reason, those who receive this type of assistance will see their deposit on Friday, August 29. In addition to the regular August payment, which will arrive on Friday, August 1.
This means that, during that month, SSI beneficiaries will receive two deposits in their bank accounts, which is uncommon. This advance also applies to those who receive retirement or SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) benefits. Those who began receiving them before May 1997 will also have their payment scheduled for August 1.
The rest of the payment schedule is organized according to the beneficiary's date of birth. Those born between the 1st and the 10th will receive their money on Wednesday, August 13. Those born between the 11th and the 20th will receive it on Wednesday, August 20.
Meanwhile, those whose birthdays fall between the 21st and the 31st will see their deposit on Wednesday, August 27. If for any reason the payment doesn't arrive on the indicated date, SSA recommends waiting at least three business days before filing a claim. During that time, it is possible to check the payment status by logging into the personal account on the My Social Security portal.

New notices from Social Security in the United States
Additionally, this type of early payment due to holidays will not be exclusive to August. According to the Social Security schedule in the United States, it will also occur in October and December 2025, due to other national holidays.
As for the amounts, the benefits vary in each case. In May 2025, for example, the average retirement payment was more than 2,000 dollars per month. Meanwhile, SSI beneficiaries received about 718.30 dollars per month.
These amounts depend on factors such as years worked, retirement age, and each person's financial situation. It is important to remember that SSI payments are intended for adults over 65 years old or people with disabilities who have limited income. Meanwhile, SSDI is designed for those who can't work due to a medical condition.
