Who is Robert Francis Prevost

Robert Francis Prevost was born in Chicago in 1955. He grew up in a Catholic family and, from a young age, showed a religious vocation. He entered the novitiate of the Order of Saint Augustine in 1977 and professed his solemn vows in 1981.

Regarding academic training, he obtained a bachelor's degree in Mathematical Sciences at Villanova University in 1977. Subsequently, a master's degree in Divinity at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago in 1982. And also a doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in 1987.

After completing his training, he dedicated himself to teaching and pastoral work in various communities. His closeness to parishioners made him stand out.

In 1992, he was appointed provincial prior of the Augustinians in the United States. During his time in this position, he improved the organization and missions of the order.
