Atmospheric instability doesn't give a break in Catalonia and adverse weather conditions will continue on Tuesday. According to meteorologists, a low pressure anchored near northern Italy will keep influencing the region's weather for several days. Hence, a new significant episode of instability is expected in the coming hours as well.
During Tuesday morning, the precipitation will generally be light and scattered, although it could affect different regions at times. However, it will be from noon onwards when the situation will worsen significantly. Meteorological models indicate the arrival of a pocket of cold air in the upper layers of the atmosphere.
This influx of cold air will move toward the northeastern peninsula, fully impacting the Pyrenees and other areas in northern Catalonia. The thermal contrast caused between the lower and upper layers of the atmosphere will favor the development of storm clouds. This will lead to locally heavy showers and downpours with electrical activity.

Storms Could Be Accompanied by Hail
These storms, concentrated in the northern half of Catalonia, will be accompanied by phenomena such as hail, sleet, and intense showers. Additionally, the snow level will drop to between 4,265 and 4,921 ft. (1,300 and 1,500 meters), which could result in snowfalls in elevated points of the Pyrenees. All of this offers an image more typical of winter than of the month of May.
The thermal sensation will also be affected. The combination of falling temperatures, precipitation, and wind associated with the storms will make it feel like a fully winter environment. Without a doubt, very far from what is usual at this time of year.

With Eyes on the Instability in Catalonia
Meteorologists recommend exercising extreme caution, especially late in the day, when the greatest intensity is expected. In this scenario, it is advised to stay informed and check the Meteocat forecast, as the issuance of new warnings is not ruled out. The episode could extend through part of the week, as the unstable atmospheric situation will persist as long as the low pressure remains near the Mediterranean.
