Several Dutch media outlets have once again turned their attention to Queen Letizia. So much so that, after an investigation, they haven't hesitated to make a new comparison between her and their own monarchs. At that point, they've reached a clear conclusion.
As every summer, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands have once again faced harsh criticism for their lifestyle and the decisions they make during their vacations.

Recently, the royal couple traveled to Greece, a usual destination for them at this time of year. There, they enjoy their vacation residence, a luxurious property they acquired in 2012, which features a swimming pool, private dock, and stunning sea views.
However, this exclusive retreat has already caused them some headaches. In fact, in the fall of 2020, Willem-Alexander and Máxima had to apologize when it was discovered that they had traveled to their villa during the lockdown.
This year, the Dutch press have focused their criticism on another important fact: the monarchs don't spend part of their vacation somewhere in the Netherlands. This is something that Queen Letizia and Felipe VI do.
Queen Letizia becomes a true example for Dutch media
Through a report, the digital outlet Story has gathered the testimonies of several royalty experts who believe that the monarchs should show more empathy toward their citizens. "They should follow the example of other royal families who do show solidarity with their people."
Meanwhile, the journalist specializing in royalty, Justine Marcella, has pointed out that the controversial choice of Willem-Alexander and Máxima is solely due to "security and discretion" reasons.

Even so, she believes it would be positive for them to stay at least a few days in their country. "They could definitely learn a thing or two from their royal colleagues," she added.
Jeroen Snel has expressed a similar view. This professional believes that it's not necessary for them to spend most of their summer vacation in the Netherlands, but he thinks a brief visit would be well received by the public.

"It's not that they have to stay here for weeks. A long weekend or a few weekdays would also be fine," this well-known Dutch commentator stated firmly.
On the other hand, this report highlights the contrast with other royal houses who do spend part of the summer in their countries. At that point, there is a special mention of Felipe VI and Letizia, who usually go to Mallorca before continuing with a private vacation.
In addition, the cases of the Swedish monarchs, Carl Gustaf and Silvia, who travel to the island of Öland, are also mentioned. Those of Denmark, Frederik and Mary, who choose Graasten Castle, are also included.
For now, it's not known for certain when Queen Letizia and her husband will arrive in Mallorca. The only thing that has been confirmed so far is that on August 4, they will welcome the local authorities, as is tradition.
