King Frederik and Queen Mary’s team has issued an official statement to inform the public about what the monarchs’ roadmap will be during their summer vacation. The summer period will begin in the coming days.
The current monarchs of Denmark are experiencing their second summer as sovereigns. However, they will still have to wait to enjoy their much desired vacation. They still have to fulfill several commitments before officially starting this summer period.

What is already known is when this desired break will begin and where King Frederik and Queen Mary plan to enjoy it King Frederik and Queen Mary. In addition, it has also been confirmed with whom they will share those leisure days, surrounded by family and tradition.
According to the Danish Royal House, which announced last Friday through a statement, it will be on July 28, 2025, when the couple will leave Amalienborg Palace.
On that day, King Frederik and Queen Mary will head to Gråsten Castle, in southern Jutland, where they will spend the entire summer. This tradition is kept year after year as a symbol of the bond between the crown and the Danish people.

King Frederik, Queen Mary, and the rest of the Danish royal family will thus return to their usual residence during the warm months, as tradition dictates. The historic castle has become an iconic place for the monarchs and their close ones.

The statement also details that Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte, the monarch’s mother and aunt, will join the couple at the castle. Both will accompany the royal couple during part of the summer to share family moments.
In addition, it is planned that, upon their arrival, the monarchs will receive a warm official welcome in Gråsten’s central square. Mayor Erik Lauritzen will lead this reception on behalf of the municipality of Sønderborg.

However, unlike last summer, this year the move will take place a few weeks later, since in 2024 it happened on July 9. On that day, King Frederik and Queen Mary experienced their first summer as monarchs, being warmly welcomed by the local residents.
This time, their four children are expected to accompany them: Princes Christian, Isabella, Vincent, and Josephine. The family will enjoy the castle, which was a wedding gift in 1935 to King Frederik IX and Ingrid, grandparents of the current monarch. Since then, the place has been a symbol of the Danish royal summer.
During their stay, the castle gardens will be closed to the public, although the church will be open for religious services. These spaces allow activities such as golf, horseback riding, or tennis, reserved only for the royal family.
In addition, every day, the Royal Guard will parade through the city to the castle, with a changing of the guard at noon. As part of the celebrations, there will also be an equestrian parade and a medieval tournament, which will bring together about 300 riders and more than 100 children on bicycles.
