"When you realize that no relationship, that money, that no child, that literally nothing can make you happy, you understand that happiness is an internal, direct, and total contact with your dark night of the soul, and you accept that you have to create happiness here," he said.
Smith acknowledged that for much of his life he focused on accumulating possessions and achievements. Now he feels he has made a complete turnaround in his way of living. "The second half of my life will be to give, give, and give," he stated, marking a radical change in his priorities.
The actor also spoke about how achieving material success didn't give him the fulfillment he imagined. "Once you've bought everything you want and there's nothing left in the world you wish to buy, you realize there's nothing material that can satisfy you," he explained.
For Smith, the real challenge has been understanding that happiness isn't found in others. "You have to create happiness here inside, without depending on any of that. You have to bring happiness to the people you love; you can't try to get it from them," he concluded.
