Good news for Movistar: it won't be affected and customers cheer wildly

Movistar has been gaining subscribers on its television platform in recent months despite customer complaints

At the beginning of 2025, Movistar Plus+'s situation seemed uncertain. The removal of AMC channels in January made many clients think they would leave the television platform.

However, the reality has been very different. Far from losing subscribers, Movistar has managed to add new users to its television service. A clear sign that something is being done right.

In an increasingly competitive market, with numerous streaming platforms fighting to capture viewers' attention, Movistar Plus+ has managed to stand out. According to the most recent data, by the end of March 2025, the platform had 3,586,000 subscribers, which represents a growth of 65,000 more users compared to the end of 2024. This figure represents the largest quarterly increase in subscribers since 2020, when the first major service cancellations began.

This positive result has not only surprised but also made it clear that Movistar's strategy is working. Despite having lost part of its television catalog with AMC's departure, user interest has not decreased. In fact, it has grown.

Movistar convinces users

One of the keys to success may have been the decision to integrate Apple TV+ content within the Fiction package, along with Max and SkyShowtime. This incorporation was made at the end of 2024 and could have been a determining factor in attracting new subscribers interested in a more complete entertainment offer.

Although growth has not been completely linear in recent quarters, the current numbers indicate a positive trend. In the second quarter of 2024, the platform had 3,455,000 subscribers, and since then it has been gradually gaining clients. In the third quarter, the increase was 49,000 users, while in the fourth it was 17,000 more, according to Mundo Plus.

The increase of 65,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2025 also represents an annual growth of 153,000 subscribers.

Movistar doesn't stop

All this indicates that Movistar Plus+ is consolidating itself once again as a solid option in the world of pay television. But not everything is done. To keep this good streak, Movistar will have to continue betting on innovation, improving the user experience, and constantly adapting to new ways of consuming content.

It is clear that it has started 2025 on the right foot. Despite initial doubts, its television figures are clear: more subscribers, greater trust, and a trend that points toward recovery. An example that, even when circumstances don't seem favorable, a good strategy can yield results.
