Manuel Viso (doctor) issues a warning about wearing jeans: ‘Your diaphragm…’

Dr. Manuel Viso explains why such a common garment as jeans could be affecting your health

Fashions have always been an essential part of society, and their constant evolution influences how we dress. However, not all trends are harmless to health, especially those related to very tight clothing. Recently, Dr. Manuel Viso has issued a warning about the regular use of extremely tight jeans, also known as "tejanos" or "skinny jeans".

The doctor has focused on the possible negative consequences that this fashion can bring to the body, beyond a simple aesthetic issue. On his social media, Viso has explained that prolonged use of very tight pants can affect different organs and systems of the human body. Specifically, he has detailed that these garments can compromise the proper functioning of the digestive system, circulation, or even the nervous system.

How tight jeans limit the diaphragm and affect your health

In one of his statements, the doctor has stated that "your diaphragm has gone on strike" due to the pressure these jeans exert on the waist and abdomen. This muscle, which is key in the breathing process, is forced to limit its normal movement when the garment excessively compresses the area. As a result, the body adapts breathing to shallower and faster patterns, which can reduce oxygenation and cause discomfort such as shortness of breath or fatigue.

Additionally, Viso has warned that the compression suffered by internal organs, especially the stomach, can cause frequent digestive problems. Continued pressure encourages gastric contents to flow back into the esophagus, producing heartburn, heavy digestion, and uncomfortable abdominal bloating. Therefore, symptoms that many people attribute only to what they have eaten may also be related to the clothes they are wearing.

The specialist has placed special emphasis on the relationship between these tight pants and a disorder known as meralgia paresthetica. This condition, caused by compression of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, generates tingling, burning, and numbness on the outer part of the thigh. According to the doctor, this ailment is much more common than is usually thought, and many patients do not associate their discomfort with the clothes they wear daily.

When fashion compromises circulation and intimate health

Likewise, tight pants can negatively affect blood circulation, making it difficult for blood to flow in the legs and causing edema, varicose veins, or cramps. In turn, the lack of breathability in intimate areas increases the risk of infections such as candidiasis, folliculitis, or cystitis, which tend to be recurrent in those who keep up with this fashion. The doctor has pointed out that "your jeans may not be as friendly to your intimate area as you thought".

Finally, Manuel Viso has recommended choosing more comfortable and elastic garments that respect the body's natural shape. In this regard, he has emphasized that knowing how to listen to one's own body is key to avoiding future harm. This warning adds to a growing debate about how fashions can affect our health and daily well-being.
