Queen Mary of Denmark has been truly surprised upon learning about the latest major step taken by her husband, King Frederik. According to reports, the monarch may have initiated a reconciliation with his brother.
Coinciding with the celebration of his 57th birthday (57º), last Monday, May 26, King Frederik of Denmark decided to honor Nikolai and Felix, Prince Joachim's eldest sons.

That day, the two young men received one of the country's most prestigious decorations: the Grand Cross of the Order of Dannebrog, created in 1671 by King Christian V. In addition, through the official Instagram account of the Danish Royal House, a series of images from the event were shared.
A gesture that, as expected, has sparked a debate among Danes about the current relationship that Queen Mary of Denmark's husband keeps with his brother.

On one hand, there are those who believe that this is merely a protocolary decoration and that this is confirmation of a fraternal rift that has been developing for years.
However, everything suggests that the gesture King Frederik has made toward his brother's children, Prince Joachim's sons, is a positive step toward their possible reconciliation.

Judging by his latest actions, everything suggests that Queen Mary of Denmark's husband has wanted to bridge the gap with his younger brother through this symbolic act.
The conflict between them began in September 2022, when Queen Margrethe II announced an unexpected and drastic decision. Starting January 1, 2023, Prince Joachim's children would lose their titles of prince and princess.

The then-monarch's goal was to reduce the royal family's expenses as much as possible, leaving the young people only with the titles of counts and countess of Monpezat.
As expected, this decision was not well received by Prince Joachim or his wife, Marie of Denmark. In fact, even though they were already living outside the country, they chose to move to the United States after the announcement.
Currently, both live in Washington, where Queen Mary of Denmark's brother-in-law serves as a diplomatic liaison at the Danish embassy, which has even brought him some political friction.
Since that moment, the distance between the brothers has become increasingly evident. So much so that King Frederik's brother has barely returned to Denmark since then and even avoided by all means being present during their mother's surgery.
In addition, he has had no problem openly expressing in media and documentaries that his relationship with Frederik has noticeably cooled in recent times.
