A nonverbal communication expert has confirmed important information about the latest controversy involving Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron. Even though France's president has stated that it is just a "joke," everything suggests that nothing could be further from the truth.
Last Sunday, May 25, all alarms went off around Emmanuel Macron and his wife. This happened after cameras from several media outlets recorded Brigitte Macron slapping her husband on the plane after their arrival in Hanoi, Vietnam.

As expected, these images quickly went viral on social media, which has caused all kinds of comments and opinions. For this reason, France's current president had no choice but to speak out about it.
Just a few hours ago, Emmanuel Macron broke his silence to clarify that it is just a misunderstanding: "My wife and I were joking, as we do quite often." He also took the opportunity to criticize the media exaggeration that has occurred.
Now, after the politician has denied everything that has been said about it, nonverbal communication expert Jordi Reche has turned to his social media. He did so to share with all his followers a detailed analysis of both of their gestures.

In the sequence circulating on social media, it can be seen how Brigitte Macron's hand hits Emmanuel Macron's face. At that moment, and visibly surprised, the politician leans back in an attempt to dodge the blow.

However, when he turns toward the plane door and notices the presence of the cameras, his attitude changes completely. At first, France's president gives the reporters a smile and an enthusiastic wave.
Also, right after that moment, both descend from the plane, at which point Emmanuel Macron offers his arm to Brigitte Macron, but she chooses to hold onto the handrail.

Taking all these gestures into account, Jordi Reche notices an obvious change in the president's attitude. "In nonverbal communication, the key is always to pay attention to what someone does when they don't feel observed," he explained at first.
"Before realizing that everyone was looking at them, Emmanuel Macron's expression isn't a joking one," he added. However, upon noticing that everyone was looking at him, that's when Brigitte Macron's husband forces his smile:
"As they're leaving, the tension and coldness between them are quite obvious... No eye contact, seriousness, and he might try to get closer or even make a gesture of offering his arm and conveying normality. Something his wife doesn't seem to support."
