Zelle has confirmed that they will automatically cancel some transfers sent under specific circumstances. This U.S. platform for person-to-person money transfers has made a key announcement for their millions of users.
This service is integrated into the apps of most major banks. Launched in June 2017 to replace clearXchange, it now allows users to send funds quickly and without fees between linked bank accounts. However, users need to keep in mind their latest notice.
Zelle's notice to all their users
Zelle has just issued a clear message to their clients. When a user sends money to another person who doesn't have an associated account, the recipient receives a notice about this transfer. Along with it, the step-by-step instructions to sign up and receive the money are also sent.

After registering with Zelle, the transfer is credited and completed in the associated bank account. However, the service warns that if the recipient doesn't register within 14 days, the transfer will be canceled.
The big question for many, in this regard, is what will happen to their money if Zelle decides to cancel the transfer. In this case, the payment service has also wanted to clarify this, showing transparency with their users.
What will happen with the money when Zelle cancels the transfer
If Zelle cancels the transfer, the money will automatically return to the sender's account in a short period. This refund is usually completed within up to 3 business days. In addition, the process doesn't involve any financial penalty. If the sender made no mistake, they will receive the full amount back.

Meanwhile, Zelle also states that if the user wants to recover the money sent to a recipient without an associated account, they don't have to wait to get it back. "You can go to your activity page, choose the payment you want to cancel, and then select 'Cancel this payment'," they explain.
However, things change if the recipient does have a Zelle account. In this case, the transfer can't be canceled. For this reason, the company encourages users to send money only to people they trust, paying special attention to the phone number or email used.
