Cold shower for Pope Leo XIV: rumors confirmed right in the middle of his vacation

Leo XIV, who was elected just two months ago as head of the Church, is already at the center of his first controversy

Pope León, who was elected two months ago as the highest leader of the Catholic Church, is already at the center of a controversy. The controversy revolves around his summer vacation, a decision that has caused mixed opinions among the faithful and the press.

Cold shower for Pope León XIV

From July 5 to July 21, the Pope withdrew to a historic residence in Castel Gandolfo, a place traditionally used by popes to rest during the summer. However, this choice has attracted a lot of attention.

His predecessor, Pope Francis, chose not to use this residence during his pontificate. In this context, he considered it excessively luxurious and preferred to stay at Casa Santa Marta inside Vatican City.

León XIV stayed at Villa Barberini, one of the properties in the Castel Gandolfo complex. This is because the main Papal Palace, by decision of Pope Francis, was designated to function as a museum.

During these two weeks, the Pope took the opportunity to relax. He also devoted time to one of his favorite hobbies: tennis, a sport he has expressed his desire to take up again after the intense schedule he has taken on since his appointment.

While he was on vacation, he suspended public and private audiences in Vatican City. However, he didn't stop keeping in touch with the faithful, since he presided over the Angelus prayer on Sundays, July 13 and 20, from Liberty Square.

He also received President Volodímir Zelenski at the villa, which shows that his official schedule continued despite the retreat. On the last day of his vacation, he visited a residence for the elderly, spending time touring the facilities and talking with the residents.

The decision to use Castel Gandolfo again has been seen by some as a return to previous papal traditions. Meanwhile, there are those who interpret it as a possible departure from the sober style that characterized Pope Francis's pontificate.

The choice of a place known for its luxury sparks a debate about the message the new Pope wants to send regarding austerity. Despite the criticism, those close to Pope León assure that his intention is to keep a balance between tradition and modesty.

The fact is that, with just two months in office, he has already shown a defined course of action. This, in turn, invites reflection on the type of leadership he will exercise and the direction his pontificate could take.
