Queen Letizia and her daughters, Leonor and Sofía, have once again left more than one person speechless with the unexpected message they sent during their summer vacation. This gesture, once again, has revealed the great commitment of the Spanish Crown.
The Royal Family's summer break in Palma has produced moments that are now part of our country's history. Among them, the presence for the first time of Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía at the traditional Marivent reception stands out.

This year, the young women joined Felipe, Letizia and Queen Emerita Sofía at this important social event. This gathering took place outdoors and in a very relaxed atmosphere.
However, what drew the most attention was the emotional and surprising moment led by Queen Letizia and her daughters, Leonor and Sofía. On that day, the three of them dared to communicate in sign language with representatives of the deaf community. This attitude sparked the interest and admiration of many.
Queen Letizia and her daughters, Leonor and Sofía, send a message of respect and inclusion during their vacation
The moment happened spontaneously when Annie Ruiz, president of the Association of Deaf People of Mallorca, showed them how to spell her name using signs.
As expected, Queen Letizia replied immediately, using sign language with ease and confidence. On more than one occasion, we have seen the monarch communicate through it.

Meanwhile, despite not having their mother's knowledge, both Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía did not hesitate to join in the gesture with complete naturalness.
"It was a unique moment. I had the opportunity to teach them some basic signs in sign language... An unforgettable experience," said Annie Ruiz, still moved after the meeting. Her words reflect the impact the exchange had, both for her and for those who witnessed it.
With this gesture, Queen Letizia and her daughters have sent a clear message to the people: their respect and support for all causes that promote social inclusion. This has not gone unnoticed by anyone. So much so that protocol and etiquette expert María José Gómez Verdú has spoken about it.
"Seeing Queen Letizia and her daughters communicate with sign language in an institutional context is a clear sign of openness, inclusivity, and good practice," she said in Lecturas.
Meanwhile, she highlighted that "these moderate protocol actions have institutional strength, without diminishing the solemnity, but bringing the Crown closer to the citizen."
The queen had already shown her knowledge of sign language on other occasions, such as in 2012 and recently in 2024. She has even dared to integrate it into some of her speeches.
