A massive product recall has shaken thousands of consumers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The cooler brand Igloo has recalled more than one million units due to a serious defect in their Flip & Tow Rolling Cooler models of 90 quarts. The problem lies in the tow handle, which can trap users' fingers, resulting in multiple serious injuries.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned about the potential danger posed by this defect after receiving 78 accident reports. Of these, 26 cases were especially serious, with amputations, fractures, and lacerations. The situation has led the company to offer a free replacement program for the defective handle to prevent further incidents.

details of the recall and affected models
The recall affects coolers sold between January 2019 and January 2025, both in physical stores and online. Some of the major retailers of these products include Costco, Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Academy, as well as Amazon and Igloo's official website. The prices of these coolers ranged between 80 and 140 dollars.
The affected models are those with the tow handle manufactured before January 2024. To identify if your cooler is on the recall list, simply check the base of the product, where the model number and manufacturing date are located. Additionally, all affected units have the name IGLOO printed on one of their sides.

how to obtain the replacement for defective coolers
The CPSC recommends consumers immediately stop using the affected coolers: to receive the free handle replacement, customers must contact Igloo. They can do so in two ways: by calling 888-943-5182 or sending an email to igloo90qt@sedgwick.com. A specialized website is also available with detailed instructions on how to receive and install the new handle.
This recall is an expansion of the notice issued in February 2025, which already affected more than one million units in the United States. The expansion of the recall on May 8 included another 130,000 coolers in the U.S., as well as 20,000 units in Canada and nearly 6,000 in Mexico.
