IRS stimulus checks 2025: the payment that's confirmed and the breaking news

The United States government has approved a $1,390 stimulus check for 2025

Millions of Americans will receive new economic assistance in the coming weeks. The measure aims to ease the persistent effects of inflation on low- and middle-income households.

The economic outlook is still marked by the rising cost of basic goods and the increase in household bills. This is why the federal government of the United States has confirmed a new economic stimulus payment worth $1,390.

This is a one-time, tax-free assistance. It will be sent automatically to citizens who meet certain income requirements or who already receive federal benefits.

The measure has indeed been officially approved, unlike other versions circulating on social media. Distribution is expected to begin in mid-2025, possibly in the summer, according to estimates from specialized media outlets.

What about the rumors of the $2,000 check?

In recent weeks, some websites and unverified posts have spread the claim that the United States government will issue a fourth $2,000 stimulus check this summer. However, that information is false. Neither Congress nor the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have approved or announced a payment of that amount.

Experts and reliable media such as The Economic Times and FingerLakes1 have debunked this claim, emphasizing that the only approved payment is the $1,390 one.

Who will receive the approved check?

The check is intended for citizens with limited or middle incomes. Eligible recipients include:

  • Single individuals with incomes up to $75,000 per year

  • Married couples filing jointly, up to $150,000

  • Heads of household, up to $112,500

Those who receive the following will also be automatically included:

  • Social Security (SSDI, SSI, or pension)

  • Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits

  • Railroad retirement

  • Families with dependents could receive an extra amount

Payment methods and estimated dates

The payment will be sent through the usual channels:

  • Direct deposit if your banking information is already with the IRS or Social Security

  • Paper check if you don't have a registered account

  • EIP prepaid card in some cases

The IRS will enable an updated version of its "Get My Payment" tool in the coming months to check the status of the payment.

Do you need to apply?

Only if you don't file taxes or receive benefits. In that case, you must enter your information using the IRS "Non-Filer Tool."

The $1,390 check is tax-exempt and doesn't interfere with other assistance such as Medicaid, food stamps (SNAP), or housing subsidies.

Beware of frauds

Authorities warn about fake messages that promise non-existent payments or request banking information. Any official information should only be checked on the IRS website: www.irs.gov.

This new check represents real relief for millions of families in a year marked by economic pressure. Although no further payments have been approved for now, analysts don't rule out future measures if the situation worsens in the coming months.
