Through all his communication channels, King Felipe has revealed the last event he will attend this week

King Felipe once again becomes the center of attention after agreeing to take part in an important sporting event. However, according to reports, the monarch has been forced to inform his Royal Household team of crucial information regarding this matter.

This week, despite the fact that it's the middle of summer vacation, both he and his wife, Queen Letizia, have had to fulfill a series of official engagements. In fact, last Monday, July 28, the sovereign had to attend as many as four audiences at the Royal Palace of Almudaina (Mallorca).

Moreover, as if that weren't enough, the following day King Felipe had an important meeting with the current President, Pedro Sánchez. This meeting took place at 6:30 p.m.

Now, after a few days of rest, the monarch has agreed to take part in a desired sporting event: the trophy presentation of the 43rd King's Cup MAPFRE sailing regatta. According to what he has told his Royal Household team, he will attend this event without Princess Leonor's company.

It's no secret that King Felipe is passionate about sailing, a hobby he shares with his father, Juan Carlos I. That's why, for him, it's an honor to take part in this important award ceremony related to this water sport.

However, this time, the monarch will attend this significant event alone. In fact, as has been confirmed, neither Queen Letizia nor his daughters, Leonor and Sofía, will be by his side.

The King and Queen, Felipe VI and Letizia, the Princess of Asturias and the Infanta Sofía, receive in audience the winners of the 2024 Princess of Asturias Awards, at the Hotel La Reconquista, on October 25, 2024, in Oviedo, Asturias.

This time, the King's Cup MAPFRE sailing regatta will be held in Palma (Mallorca) with a notable participation in the Ubico ORC B class. A total of 35 boats will compete for the title, making this category the most crowded in the championship.

The regatta, in its 43rd edition, began last July 26 and will conclude today, August 2, with the traditional award ceremony, presided over by King Felipe VI. In fact, he will be responsible for announcing this year's winner and presenting the corresponding recognition.

The King's Cup MAPFRE represents the highest expression of high-level sailing in Spain and the Mediterranean. This year marks the 43rd edition of the event, true to its spirit of constant improvement. The event continues to establish itself as a benchmark in the international nautical calendar.

The origins of this iconic competition date back to 1982, when the National Cruising Association and the Royal Nautical Club of Palma promoted the first edition. At that time, it was an open regatta for all classes with compensated time.

In its debut, the number of registered boats exceeded 50, many attracted by the International Mediterranean Championship. This competition served as the framework for the first two editions of the event.

However, it wasn't until 1983 that the regatta gained notoriety with the arrival of the Maxis in Palma Bay. That same year, the Balearic boat "Barracuda," skippered by Pepín González, claimed victory.

The 1984 and 1985 editions were marked by the dominance of "Bribón," owned by José Cusí. With him began the tradition of seeing Juan Carlos I competing in "his" regatta.
