They reveal the harsh comment the Duke of Edinburgh made about Meghan Markle

A spontaneous gesture by the Duke of Edinburgh during a royal event is resonating again thanks to some revealing memoirs

An unexpected gesture from the Duke of Edinburgh after his grandson's wedding once again puts the spotlight on the British royal family. Years later after the wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, a new revelation stirs memories of that historic day in Windsor.

After Sally Bedell Smith's revelations about Queen Elizabeth II's concern for Meghan, new details are emerging from Buckingham's inner circle. Someone close to Buckingham's circle has revealed what the Duke of Edinburgh really thought about his grandson's wife. His words, included in a recent memoir, provide a more direct and revealing view of the royal consort's feelings.

A wedding that drew all eyes

On May 19, 2018, the eyes of the world were on Windsor. The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was held at St. George's Chapel and attracted more than 600 guests. Among them were members of royalty, international celebrities, and influential figures from the worlds of politics and entertainment.

The ceremony was broadcast worldwide and followed by millions of people. David and Victoria Beckham, Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, and Elton John were just some of the prominent names. Amid the media attention, the royal family followed protocol with a smile, though not without effort.

That Saturday was a long day, with numerous events, greetings, and protocols. For the younger ones, it was a celebration; for the older ones, an intense day that left its mark. Especially for one of them, who, unknowingly, would end up making a comment that wouldn't come to light until years later.

An unexpected reaction after an intense day

The Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, attended the wedding at almost 97 years old (97 años) and visibly tired. At the end of the ceremony, he expressed with relief a phrase that few heard: "Thank God, it's finally over," according to his former butler Grant Harrold. The comment, spontaneous and direct, has now come to light thanks to the former royal assistant's memoir, in his book The Royal Butler.

The anecdote, now reported by Page Six, reveals a human side of the Duke, known for his candor and sense of humor. Although some may consider his expression inappropriate, those who knew him say it was an honest reaction after an exhausting day. Harrold, who worked in the Royal Household for years, details several similar moments in his memoir.

This isn't the first time Philip of Edinburgh showed some discomfort with excessive formalities. On other occasions, he had already made ironic comments after official events. This time, however, the context—a historic and highly publicized wedding—makes his words especially relevant.

The Duke of Edinburgh's comment that surprised everyone

Several years after the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, his forceful words about Meghan Markle are now coming to light. After the wedding, Meghan and Harry made a decision that wasn't well received by any member of the royal household. The so-called Megxit caused surprise in some and resignation in others within the family.

The family's former butler has revealed the forceful words that the Duke of Edinburgh said about Meghan Markle. According to his statements, just like the Queen, Philip believed Meghan didn't have a positive influence on his grandson. Since Harry began his relationship with Meghan, the Duke noticed how his grandson was becoming increasingly distant from the family core.

However, Philip told his closest circle that, although he didn't agree, "people must live as they see fit." Despite his traditional views, the Duke always kept a certain distance from public conflicts, earning respect for his discretion, perseverance, and loyalty to the monarchy.
