The monarchical institution will now have this famous face from our country's media

Palacio de la Zarzuela will have a new member on its communications team. Specifically, by decision of King Felipe, the person joining the team is none other than journalist Rosa Lerchundi.

She, starting in September, will be the communications director of Casa del Rey. This is an important position that she will take on after a successful career in journalism, mainly in television, and specializing in parliamentary reporting.

Rosa Lerchundi, a journalist with a long career serving King Felipe

Rosa Lerchundi was born in San Sebastián in 1965 and holds a degree in journalism from Universidad del País Vasco. She began her career at a Basque television agency, where she was responsible, among other matters, for news coverage about ETA. She did so during one of the most complex periods in our country.

In 1999, she made the leap to Telecinco, where she established herself as one of the most recognized professionals in the field of parliamentary reporting. She served as a political correspondent during a period of significant institutional activity. In 2007, she was appointed head of national news, a position she has held to this day.

In Zarzuela, they value not only her experience but also her analytical skills and journalistic rigor. Her technical and discreet profile fits perfectly with the communications approach currently promoted by Casa del Rey.

That's why, starting in September, Lerchundi will take on this position, replacing Jordi Gutiérrez, who has held it for 30 years. In addition, she will become the second woman in history to lead communications at Zarzuela. The first was Asunción Valdés.

This change marks a significant milestone in the institution's communications transition, as they seek to adapt to the new media and social environment. The journalist will face the challenge of strengthening the public image of the Crown and coordinating relations with the media. Of course, managing Casa Real's digital strategies will also be part of her responsibilities.

King Felipe drives a deep renewal at Zarzuela

This appointment is part of a series of changes that King Felipe is promoting within Zarzuela's work team. Since he ascended to the throne, the husband of Queen Letizia has advocated for a more transparent, professional, and citizen-focused management. Institutional communications are one of the key pillars of this transformation.

The departure of Jordi Gutiérrez, after more than 30 years, marks the end of an era. He has accompanied the institution during key moments, including the reign of Juan Carlos I, the abdication, and the proclamation of the current monarch. His work has been recognized both inside and outside Zarzuela for his discretion and effectiveness.

With the arrival of Rosa Lerchundi, the commitment to modern, professional, and cross-cutting communications is reinforced. Her approach, marked by journalistic rigor, is expected to strengthen the connection between the institution and public opinion. In addition, her parliamentary experience will be key to managing messages in a political context as changeable as the current one.

The appointment is also part of a broader restructuring that includes other internal changes. One of the most notable is the addition, also in September, of journalist Marta Carazo as head of Queen Letizia's secretariat. This new team configuration strengthens the presence of women in senior positions at Casa del Rey.

Therefore, her role will be essential in the coming years. Especially during a period in which the image and message of the Crown must be clear, coherent, and transparent.
