In a market saturated with large chains, there's a name that often goes unnoticed. Among so many popular options, many consumers always choose the same brands. However, there's a store that's gradually gaining ground with a very unique style.
We're talking about Publix, the chain from the southern United States that keeps expanding. Founded and headquartered in Florida, it already has more than 1,400 stores in eight states. Its recent growth is focused on new markets with openings that are generating a lot of anticipation.

Publix's expansion in Kentucky and Virginia
Publix has set out to grow beyond its traditional territories. Although Kentucky didn't have any stores from the brand until recently, that changed last year with its first location in Louisville. It was a milestone for the company, which brought its bakery pies to new customers in Kentucky and even to shoppers from Southern Indiana.
This 2025 has been key for expansion in Kentucky. They opened their first location in Lexington and another in Walton, very close to Cincinnati and southern Ohio. In addition, last month they opened a second spot in Lexington and there are already plans for a third, along with two new stores in Louisville by the end of the year.
The goal doesn't stop there: Publix has announced more than a dozen openings in Kentucky. Among the confirmed ones are Florence, Cold Spring, Independence, and Hebron, all less than 19 mi. (30 km) by car from Cincinnati. There's also a new location planned in Owensboro, expanding options for shoppers in Southern Indiana, according to All Recipes.

Strategic growth and new opportunities
Publix's progress isn't just focused on Kentucky, Virginia is also part of the chain's growth strategy. A Publix spokesperson confirmed the leasing of a location in Winchester, Virginia, which will become the northernmost Publix in the United States. Although there aren't any confirmed construction or opening dates yet, the news excites shoppers near Maryland and Washington D.C.
This move means that residents of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area will have a Publix less than two hours away. It's a unique opportunity to try their popular "Pub subs," fried chicken praised even by actor Channing Tatum, and their exclusive desserts. In addition, the chain stands out for its buy one get one free deals, stackable coupons, and discounts on medical prescriptions.
Publix knows that the customer experience is key to its success. With ready-to-go dishes, from salads to sandwiches and fruit parfaits, they attract those seeking quality and convenience. That combination of fresh products and competitive prices is the formula they're using to win over new markets.
