TGI Fridays makes a last-minute drastic decision after announcing massive closures

After the closure of multiple locations, TGI Fridays makes a strategic decision that could change its definitive course

The outlook was not encouraging for one of the most well-known fast food chains in the United States, TGI Fridays. After years of ups and downs and with fierce competition in the sector, key decisions could no longer wait. Despite that, what has surprised everyone is the step they have decided to take right in the middle of their worst moment.

TGI Fridays, which declared bankruptcy in 2024, has announced a complete transformation of its menu as part of its attempt to survive. 85% of the dishes have been replaced or improved, with the goal of regaining customers' trust and relaunching the brand. This drastic measure comes after the closure of dozens of locations across the country.

A new beginning with renewed flavor

The return of former CEO, Ray Blanchette, has been a key piece in this new stage. After leaving the leadership in 2023, he has returned with the mission of leading the chain's recovery. His strategy is based on a clear idea: if a dish is not up to par, it is removed or improved.

The redesign of the menu is important in this rescue plan. According to Blanchette, as explained to CNN, the goal is for each option to be a source of pride for the kitchen team. It's not just about attracting with new items, but about elevating the quality in every detail of the service and the food.

One of the big bets is the introduction of an exclusive sauce, called "TGI Sauce." This creation aims to become the new hallmark of the house, designed to accompany everything from burgers to breaded chicken. The chain defines it as a versatile and addictive sauce, capable of giving a flavor twist to any dish.

New items on the menu and an unknown in the future

Although the full menu has not yet been revealed, the brand's website already shows some of the new additions. Among the offerings are the "Loaded Tots" and a burger named "Big Queso Energy Burger." There are also new starters like a basket of boneless wings and dishes like the "Texas BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger" or a new "Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich."

This radical change occurs while other major chains are also adjusting their menus. Brands like Chipotle, Taco Bell, or McDonald's have made recent moves to refresh their offerings. However, TGI Fridays is betting on a deeper transformation, not only to attract customers but to avoid disappearing from the map.

It remains to be seen if this bet will yield the desired results in the United States. In a market where innovation is constant and consumer tastes change quickly, time will be key. For now, the chain has made an unexpected turn when many had written it off.
